Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Use this section to find quick answers about course eligibility, logistics, and payment policies for all Don't Panic Wilderness Medicine courses (WFA, WFR, and WEMT).
Eligibility & Course Prerequisites
Is there a minimum age requirement for your courses (WFA, WFR, WEMT)?
Yes. Students must be a minimum of 16 years old to participate in any of our Wilderness Medicine courses, including WFA, WFR, and WEMT.
What is the average class size for the WFR and WEMT courses?
Our classes are kept intentionally small to maximize hands-on learning. The average class size is 12 students, ensuring you receive continuous, watchful instruction from our expert instructor.
WEMT & National Certification
Is your Wilderness EMT (WEMT) course nationally recognized?
Yes. Our WEMT course is nationally recognized and follows the Desert Mountain Medicine (DMM) curriculum standards. Don't Panic LLC operates as a training site, and our lead instructor is an instructor coordinator for the SD EMS Association.
Does the WEMT course include clinical rotations (ambulance/hospital time)?
Yes. Clinical time is an essential component of our WEMT certification. This experience is included and is delivered through a combination of ambulance ride-alongs, station time, and hospital rotations in the Black Hills area.
How do I use my WEMT certification to practice in other states?
Upon successful completion of the WEMT course, you must pass the NREMT exam (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians). Most states accept this credential and recognize it for reciprocity. You will then use your NREMT pass to apply for state-level certification in the state where you wish to practice.
Logistics & Gear
What should I bring/wear for the practical outdoor scenarios?
You should bring clothes appropriate for the forecasted weather, as our courses involve significant time outdoors. We recommend layers and clothing that you are okay getting dirty or potentially stained, as our scenarios are realistic and hands-on.
Payment & Cancellation Policies
What are my payment options for the courses?
We offer flexible and secure payment options:
Online Platforms: Pay quickly using a credit card, Venmo, or PayPal through our secure Payable Forms portal after registering.
Invoicing: We can send an invoice payable by credit card, PayPal, or check. If needed, we can split the course fee into separate invoices so you can pay in installments.

Full Refund (Minus $50 Fee): Available for cancellations made 30 days or more before the course start date.
